The
Junior Old York Road Skating Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to
the promotion of and participation in the sport of amateur figure skating. Headquartered
at The Rink at Old York Road in Elkins Park, PA it is affiliated with The Rink
at Warwick and The Rink at Lehigh Valley. The Jr. OYRSC organizes a variety
of shows and exhibitions including the annual Winter Wonderland and Spring Fling
Shows, as well as the 2006 Evening with Stars with participants such as the
2006 World Champions and the 2006 U.S. National Silver Medallists.
Jr.
OYRSC members have the opportunity of taking part in an extensive program with
a variety of classes suited to each skater’s level and interests. Below
are descriptions of each of the different classes as well as a link to their
respective applications. These classes allow skaters to achieve and perform
at a higher level while addressing the need for a high quality, well balanced
group instruction program. Skaters who have passed basic 4 are eligible (lower
level skaters interested may be evaluated by one of our coaches in order to
participate). The Jr. OYRSC classes are intended to be a supplement to the Learn
to Skate Program, not a substitution. Most skaters enroll in these programs
while completing their Basic 1-8 and Free Skate levels.
Skaters
who wish to take any of the Jr. OYRSC Classes must first be members of the Jr.
Old York Road Skating Club (membership runs annually for $20.00).

Synchronized
Skating
Synchronized skating is a wonderful
opportunity for skaters to share their love for the sport and come together
to skate as a team. It is becoming one of the most popular team disciplines
in the United States. Not only is it challenging, but it builds team
spirit and unity while learning new and exciting concepts. Synchronized
skating allows skaters to continue the joy of skating long after they
might with Freestyle. It offers them opportunities otherwise not available
to them. Synchronized Skating is the only figure skating discipline
that you are able to receive College Scholarships for. At the end of
each 12 week session, the team will have the opportunity to participate
in either a show or a competition.

Dance
and Moves in the Field
Dance is an art that has evolved
all forms of music and movement on ice. It will teach the skater deep
edges, turns, flow, body line and position. This discipline is often
times overlooked by the beginner skater which is a real shame. They,
especially, can reap the benefits of dance. It will improve their skating
technique greatly. For the more experienced skater, it will provide
the focus on their presentation and posture that tend to be a second
thought.
Moves
in the Field are a vital part of figure skating in all disciplines.
These are the essence of skating; the connecting steps, the edges and
turns between the jumps and spins. This program is based on the patterns
and concepts from the U.S. Figure Skating test structure.

Off-Ice
Pilates
Pilates is a physical fitness process
that requires control of the mind, strengthens the body’s core,
and provides self-confidence and well-being. Every movement in Pilates
is precise and is for a purpose. Each exercise is done in a fluid motion
rather than being static and rigid which are basic aspects that are
needed in Figure Skating. It allows skaters to enhance their skills
while stretching and strengthening their muscles.
*Those
adults/parents that would also be interested in a Pilates class, please
contact, via email or call, Figure Skating Director Julia
Rey. The Rink office number is 215.635.0331.
